Audition Call 6th October 2024 at the MADC Clubrooms

MADC are thrilled to announce their March 2025 production of Michael Green’s super comedy (or shall we say comedies!) THE COARSE ACTING SHOW, directed by Stephen Oliver, bringing you a grand total of SIX brilliant short comedies in ONE EVENING at Teatru Salesjan AND Teatru Manoel!!

What is a Coarse Actor?  One who can remember the lines but not in the order in which they come and can remember the pauses but not the lines. One who knows when to come on stage but not where. Utilising every acting cliché, where all old people walk with a limp, all policemen tread heavily and all servants are stupid. All working class characters speak in “gorblimey” voices and characters die a death in which the pain is always felt in the bowels no matter where the wound is. 

Based on Michael Green’s brilliant best-selling book’ The Art of Coarse Acting’, THE COARSE ACTING SHOW displays everything that is bad about actors, set designers, hair and makeup and costume design. How plays are horribly miscast and how sound and light technicians with limited knowledge can destroy a performance all played deadly seriously.

The play is broken down into 6 short plays all showing actors at their worst. STREUTH, the classic murder mystery, A COLLIER’S TUESDAY TEA, a gritty Northern drama, complete with dodgy accents, ALL’S WELL THAT ENDS AS YOU LIKE IT, the very worst in Shakespearean performance, LAST CALL FOR BREAKFAST, one of those overly pretentious Arthaudian/Beckett style pieces, JULIUS and CLEOPATRA, complete with chariot race and finally THE CHERRY SISTERS, deliciously Chekovian.

TWELVE actors will be cast and will play many roles from leading characters to 4th citizen to ‘backstage hands’.
